Description

Creating Inspiring Learning Environments

St George’s Academy is one of Lincolnshire’s leading educational establishments, committed to providing outstanding learning opportunities for its students. As part of its ongoing investment in education, the Academy commissioned a major refurbishment and extension project to transform its music department while creating additional high-quality teaching space.

Appointed as the main contractor, Gelder Group worked closely with the client and design team to deliver a modern, flexible facility that enhances both music education and the wider curriculum. By combining refurbishment with new-build construction, the project has created an environment that will support teaching and learning for many years to come.

Points to Consider

Delivering significant construction works within a live educational setting required careful planning, communication and collaboration.

Working in a Live School Environment

Maintaining a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors was paramount. Construction activities were carefully phased to minimise disruption to the daily operation of the Academy, allowing teaching to continue throughout the project.

Blending New and Existing Buildings

The project combined the refurbishment of existing music classrooms with the construction of a contemporary two-storey extension. Careful coordination ensured a seamless integration between the existing facilities and the new accommodation.

Delivering to Programme

Working within the Academy’s programme was essential to ensure the new facilities were available for students as planned. Through proactive project management and close collaboration with the client and supply chain, Gelder successfully delivered the project on schedule.
