Description

Tighe Group, a nationwide full-service painting contractor, required a modern, purpose-built head office, workshop facility and Storage Yard that could support their growing operations. Their ambition was to bring together administrative, operational and welfare functions within a single, highly efficient development—while ensuring the building could adapt to future growth.

Key Challenges

  1. Designing for Two Distinct Operational Functions: The head office required collaborative workspaces, private meeting rooms and modern staff facilities, while the workshop needed robust materials, open storage and operational practicality.

    Solution:

    • Bespoke design layouts tailored to each function
    • Workshop designed for durability and heavy-duty use
    • Head office designed around staff comfort and operational flow
    • Shared services arranged efficiently to reduce running costs
  2. Ensuring Capacity for Future Expansion: The client required a building and storage yard able to grow with the business and adapt to new processes and staffing levels.

    Solution:

    • Flexible floorplates with capacity for reconfiguration
    • Additional storage and welfare integrated into the mezzanine
    • Services and M&E designed for future loading and adaptability
  3. Full Compliance with Regulations & Energy Efficiency: Meeting modern fire, safety, accessibility and environmental standards was critical across both buildings.

    Solution:

    • Energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems
    • High-performance insulation and building fabric
    • Design compliance checked throughout with local authorities
    • Accessible layouts to meet all relevant building regulations

Solutions & Technical Delivery

A combination of intelligent design, quality materials and a futureproof approach ensured the project met every operational requirement.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Layouts planned around daily workflows
  • Logical separation of administrative and workshop functions
  • Storage and equipment positioned for ease of use and safety

Smart Design & Specification:

  • Modern open-plan and cellular office spaces
  • Meeting rooms designed for collaboration and privacy
  • Mezzanine offices and storage integrated into the workshop
  • Staff welfare facilities, mess room and breakout space
  • Efficient circulation spaces improving internal workflow
  • 250mm thick concrete storage yard with 2 layers of reinforcement to withstand the significant loadings of steel brought in for shot blasting

Sustainability & Quality:

  • Energy-efficient M&E installations
  • LED lighting and modern heating/cooling systems
  • High-quality materials selected for durability and low maintenance
  • Building fabric designed to reduce energy consumption and waste
