Description
Delivering Specialist Healthcare Improvements
The refurbishment of the en-suite facilities at the Hartsholme Centre’s Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) was commissioned by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to address ongoing damp issues and improve the quality, safety and longevity of the ward facilities.
Working within a live healthcare environment, The Gelder Group successfully completed the full refurbishment of all ward en-suites, transforming them into modern, compliant wet rooms specifically designed for an acute mental health setting. Through careful planning, close collaboration and a proactive approach, the project was delivered on programme with minimal disruption to patients and staff.
Building Within a Live Environment
Undertaking refurbishment works within an occupied psychiatric intensive care unit required meticulous planning and strict safety procedures. Our team successfully managed several key challenges:
Live Healthcare Environment
The Hartsholme Centre is a 10-bed all-male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit caring for patients with acute mental health needs. Maintaining a safe, secure and operational environment throughout the works was the highest priority, requiring close coordination with Trust staff and careful management of daily activities.
Specialist Healthcare Compliance
Every aspect of the refurbishment needed to comply with stringent mental health design standards, incorporating anti-ligature products and secure construction methods to provide a safe environment for patients and staff.
Programme Delivery
The refurbishment programme was carefully phased and managed to ensure the works were completed within the 12-week construction programme, minimising disruption to the ward and allowing the upgraded facilities to be returned to service as quickly as possible.
Solutions & Technical Specifications
Our team delivered a complete refurbishment of the ward en-suite facilities, creating modern, durable and fully compliant wet rooms tailored to the requirements of a psychiatric intensive care environment. The works included:
