Description

Delivering Refurbishment Within Live Operational Environments

The Gelder Group successfully delivered a programme of refurbishment works across ten operational police stations throughout Nottinghamshire. The scheme involved flooring replacement, internal redecoration and associated enabling works, all undertaken whilst the buildings remained fully operational.

Working within secure policing environments required meticulous planning, flexible programming and close collaboration with Nottinghamshire Police to ensure that essential frontline services remained fully operational throughout the project. Through proactive planning and effective communication, Gelder completed the programme safely, on time and to a consistently high standard, demonstrating our expertise in delivering refurbishment projects across multiple occupied sites.

Points to Consider

Refurbishing multiple operational police stations simultaneously required careful planning, coordination and a flexible approach. Our team successfully managed three key challenges:

Live Operational Environments

Each police station remained fully operational throughout the works, requiring careful programming to ensure offices, interview rooms, custody suites and public reception areas remained accessible with minimal disruption to police services.

Security & Stakeholder Coordination

Working within secure public sector facilities demanded strict compliance with security procedures and close liaison with Nottinghamshire Police Estates teams, local station managers and operational staff to coordinate safe access and maintain business continuity.

Multi-Site Programme Delivery

Managing refurbishment works across ten separate locations required efficient resource management, consistent quality control and clear communication to ensure every site was delivered safely, on programme and to the same high standard.

Solutions & Technical Delivery

Our experienced refurbishment teams implemented a carefully phased programme that enabled works to be completed efficiently while maintaining operational continuity across all locations. The project included:

  • Replacement of floor finishes, including safety vinyl flooring and entrance matting.
  • Internal redecoration of walls, ceilings, doors and timber joinery.
  • Associated enabling works to facilitate refurbishment activities.
  • Flexible working hours to accommodate operational requirements and minimise disruption.
  • Careful coordination of access arrangements within secure environments.
  • Continuous communication with Estates teams and station management throughout the programme.
  • Delivery across ten occupied sites while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and quality.

The People Behind the Project

The success of this programme reflects the professionalism, flexibility and collaborative approach of the Gelder team. Delivering works within secure policing environments required more than technical expertise; it demanded responsive planning, excellent communication and an understanding of the operational requirements of each individual station.

By working closely with Nottinghamshire Police throughout the programme, our teams successfully maintained operational continuity while delivering high-quality refurbishment works across every location.

Project Outcome

The refurbishment programme was successfully completed on time and to a high standard, enhancing the internal working environments across ten police stations without interrupting frontline policing operations.
