Description
Turning Vision into Reality
The refurbishment of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Lincoln County Hospital was driven by a clear clinical need: to create a modern diagnostic space capable of housing advanced medical equipment while maintaining patient safety and operational continuity.
This project formed a key part of the hospital’s wider commitment to improving patient care and diagnostic services. It required not just construction expertise, but a highly collaborative approach with healthcare partners and specialist contractors. Gelder Group successfully delivered this technically complex project on time and within budget.
Points to Consider
Refurbishing a live hospital environment presented a number of challenges. Our team navigated three primary issues with characteristic problem-solving and dedication:
Structural Limitations:
The existing floor could not support the weight of the new Spec CT scanner and IBS gamma camera. Specialist carbon-fibre reinforcement was installed by CCUK to strengthen the first floor without impacting hospital operations.
M&E and Environmental Constraints:
New ventilation and mechanical systems were required to serve the entire department, all within restricted roof space. Our team worked with Selmec to design and deliver compliant HTM-standard systems that met the specific requirements of the new equipment.
Live Hospital Environment:
All works were completed without interrupting clinical services. Careful sequencing, planning, and out-of-hours work allowed critical structural and installation tasks to be completed safely and efficiently.
Solutions & Technical Specifications
Gelder Group delivered a technically advanced refurbishment with patient safety and usability at the heart of the design:

State-of-the-Art Equipment Installation:
The department now houses a Spec CT scanner and IBS gamma camera, fully integrated into hospital services.
Patient-Focused Refurbishment:
Reception and waiting areas were remodelled for accessibility and improved patient flow.
Compliance & Standards:
M&E services were designed to HTM standards, fully meeting NHS operational requirements.
