Gelder Group secures Get Fishing Fund

February 28, 2024  8:41 am

The Gelder Group lake has now been established for over 10 years and is well stocked with a variety of fish including Carp, Roach, Skimmer Bream and Humble Gudgeon. To encourage the next generation of fishers into the sport Gelder Group have applied for a secured funding from The Angling Trust.

The Angling Trust set-up the ‘Get Fishing’ fund to create more opportunities for people to get into angling and was established thanks to an investment of £200,000 of fishing licence income from the Environment Agency.

Simon Blaydes, Group Environmental Officer who was part of the team that secured the funding confirmed:

Gelder Group will now run the introduction to fishing events from May to September with two events per month, either a Saturday or Sunday morning from 9am to 12 noon. There may also be the option of having sessions during school holidays.

David Ternent, Group Health & Safety Manager who is a keen fisherman and also was part of the team that secured the funding said:

We believe the more children and people we introduce to fishing the better it will be for their mental and physical wellbeing providing them with the opportunity to spent time outside in a safe environment with family and friends and hopefully we can inspire the next generation of fishermen and fisherwomen which will in turn help ensure fishing remains one of the most popular sports in the UK.
