Description

Gelder Group was awarded a contract to construct a Gamma Camera Suite installation at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, England. The project was completed in a 23-week program and required extensive planning and coordination to ensure the successful completion of the installation.

The project’s scope involved constructing a Gamma Camera Suite installation within the existing hospital building, which would provide advanced imaging capabilities for the hospital’s oncology department. The installation required the construction of a shielded room to house the Gamma Camera and associated equipment, including a control room and a reception area.

The Gelder Group began the project by conducting extensive site surveys and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and challenges that could arise during the installation process. They also collaborated closely with the hospital’s management team and oncology department to ensure that the installation would meet their specific requirements and operational needs.

To facilitate the construction of the Gamma Camera Suite installation, the Gelder Group employed a team of skilled tradespeople, including electricians, plumbers, and engineers. The team worked in a highly coordinated manner to ensure that the installation was completed on schedule and within budget.

One of the critical challenges faced during the project was the construction of the shielded room, which was required to prevent radiation leakage from the Gamma Camera. The Gelder Group employed specialist contractors to install the lead shielding, which required careful planning and precision to ensure that the room was completely sealed and radiation-free.

The construction team also worked closely with the hospital’s IT department to install the necessary cabling and network infrastructure to support the Gamma Camera’s advanced imaging capabilities. This required the installation of high-speed fiber optic cabling, which was integrated with the hospital’s existing IT infrastructure.
