Description
During initial site setup, it was discovered that the area had been used by illegal waste dumpers, resulting in a significant amount of waste that needed to be removed, including some asbestos.
Upon conducting a thorough investigation, licensed asbestos was found in the ground, leading to an immediate halt of all construction activities on the site. In response, we engaged the services of a specialized asbestos removal contractor who collaborated with us to inform the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and implement appropriate procedures to ensure the safety of the public and workers.
This unforeseen situation caused a delay of six weeks, which we managed to reduce to four weeks in order to meet our client’s requirement of opening the store on time.
The store itself followed was a bespoke Lidl construction design, featuring Poroton walls with a render system, a 4000m2 car park, and an agreement with neighbouring properties to construct a brick façade as part of a party wall arrangement.
The scope of our work encompassed various elements, including:
- Car park construction
- Installation of boundary walls
- Soft landscaping
- Installation of new fencing
- Hard landscaping
- White lining for the car park
- Car park lighting
- Implementation of surface water drainage system
- Construction of a steel frame
- Poroton wall installation with a render system
Despite the challenges encountered, the project was ultimately successful, meeting a high standard of quality with minimal issues.
