Description
Transforming Leisure Facilities into a Modern Wellness Destination
The redevelopment of the Kenwick Club Spa was driven by the ambition to create a premium health, wellness and leisure destination following the devastating fire which completely destroyed the previous facility.
Constructed on the site of the former leisure centre whilst the hotel remained fully operational, this major redevelopment required careful planning, technical expertise and close collaboration between all project stakeholders. Gelder successfully delivered the new state-of-the-art Evergreen Spa, creating a modern facility that enhances the visitor experience and supports the long-term future of the hotel and leisure complex.
Points to Consider
Delivering a high-quality spa and leisure facility within a live hotel environment presented several significant challenges, all of which were successfully managed by the project team through careful coordination and proactive problem solving:
Live Operational Environment
The hotel remained open to guests and visitors throughout the construction programme. Careful management of site logistics, noise, safety and access routes was essential to minimise disruption to hotel operations and customer experience.
Complex Structural Design
The project incorporated intricate roof detailing, a glazed atrium and extensive curtain walling to the pool area. Coordination between multiple specialist trades was critical to ensure quality and programme objectives were achieved.
Restricted Site Access
Limited access to the site required detailed planning and sequencing of deliveries, plant movement and installation works, including the coordination of the plant lift installation and specialist mechanical systems.
Solutions & Technical Specifications
The completed development delivers a modern and luxurious wellness environment, combining high-quality construction with state-of-the-art leisure facilities. Key features included:
Modern Construction Techniques
Full demolition of the former spa and pool facility, followed by construction using pad foundations, a steel frame structure, timber trusses and steel purlins with Kingspan tile supports.
Contemporary External Design
Metsec inner skin wall construction with masonry outer walls, complemented by extensive glazed curtain walling to maximise natural light within the pool environment.
Premium Leisure Facilities
The new spa includes a 20m x 8m heated swimming pool with dedicated training area, internal spa pool and full thermal experience facilities.
Health & Fitness Facilities
Development of a fully equipped gymnasium, spinning studio, exercise studio and luxurious members’ facilities designed to enhance the overall customer experience.
Relaxation & Wellness Spaces
Creation of treatment rooms, relaxation areas, changing facilities and an eatery space, delivering a complete wellness and leisure destination for guests and members alike.
The People Behind the Project
The success of the Kenwick Club Spa redevelopment reflects the dedication, hard work and collaborative approach of the Gelder team and specialist supply chain partners. Delivering a technically complex project within a live hotel environment required flexibility, communication and a strong solutions-driven mindset throughout the programme.
By working closely with the client and coordinating multiple specialist trades, the team successfully transformed the site into a high-quality leisure facility that exceeded expectations.
Community Impact
The new Evergreen Spa has provided Kenwick Park Hotel with a flagship leisure facility that enhances tourism, wellbeing and hospitality within the local area. The redevelopment has strengthened the hotel’s long-term offering, creating an attractive destination for visitors, hotel guests and local members alike.
The project demonstrates how investment in modern leisure infrastructure can revitalise hospitality venues, improve customer experience and support the wider local economy.
