Description
The Savoy Cinema in Gainsborough was driven by a clear community need: to create a state-of-the-art leisure space where people of all ages could enjoy the magic of cinema in comfort and style.
As a key part of West Lindsey District Council’s wider regeneration vision, this project required not just construction expertise, but a collaborative partnership approach and a genuine proactive mindset to tackle significant town-centre challenges. Gelder delivered this ambitious project, successfully handing over the development on time and on budget.
Points to Consider
Building a modern cinema in a central, historic town location presents unique complexities. Our team navigated three primary challenges with their characteristic hard work and problem-solving skills:
- Urban Environment: The central location required meticulous planning and coordination with local authorities (WLDC) and stakeholders to manage logistics and minimise disruption in a live town centre environment.
- Unforeseen Archaeology: The site’s rich heritage presented potential archaeological considerations, that our team expertly managed to ensure project continuity.
- Tight Deadline: The completion deadline was critical to ensure the cinema was open for key school holidays. Our dedicated team worked closely with The Savoy Group and local sub-contractors, leveraging their exceptional attitude to meet this crucial handover date.
