Gelder Group Memorial Charity Fishing Match 2023

October 5, 2023  7:38 am

Another well attended Memorial Match at the Gelder Fishing Lake, although the forecast and weather wasn’t great, luckily it remained dry.

First and second place was a real clash of the Titans with Gary Cox and Dave Wass going head-to-head between pegs 3 and 5, fishing two very different tactics. Dave with his tried and tested silver fish method, whilst Gary fished heavy to specifically single out the bigger fish. Both methods proved to be wise choices, however with probably only the difference of 2 or 3 small fish it was Dave Wass who took the win. Gary caught 3 lovely Common Carp, whilst Dave had a remarkable bag again with  175 + small silver fish …a total contrast in tactics but respective anglers making the right decisions on the day.

Great to see the younger anglers firmly on the score sheet with Archie Cook taking 5th place and angling Partner Tyler taking 3rd place. Local Young Farmer Tyler keeping busy all match, fishing skilfully between the King Fisher perching post and snaggy reeds to the right. Archie was back in Rick’s Peg for the second year running, fishing hard, no doubt fired-up by the extra chance of winning the match along with 25 quids worth of Prime! Archie surprised us all by catching a cracking Chub, the first one ever recorded in a match. Seasoned match Pro ‘Gally’ secured a respectable fourth place, on Peg 4.

Many thanks to the John and all the Paton’s and for the box of lager donated for the Winner, hope Neil Paton can make the event again next year! Well done to John Paton for winning the star prize Victoria Sponge cake. Thanks to the Xeric team for keeping the Lake topped up all year, Gary the Gardener for strimming the paths. The Jungle Warfare Unit putting in the late shifts, Staff and Friends who visited on the day,  the Cook family for continuing their by name by nature, providing a huge hot breakfast on the Day, Jane Blaydes for the baking and organising the raffle, Redline for the tool hire and Brummie for allowing access to site. The real winner on the day of course being the charities the event supported and raised monies for.
