North Sea Observatory’s progress is seen by local residents

The North Sea Observatory at Chapel St Leonards nearing completion.

A new iconic building on the seafront at Chapel St Leonards is almost ready to be handed over to our clients Lincolnshire County Council. The facility constructed by Gelder Group will have fantastic uninterrupted views of the dunes, beach and North Sea and is the UK’s only purpose designed marine observatory.

February will see it open to the public who will be able to enjoy the perfect vantage point for views of this spectacular part of the Lincolnshire coastline. On the project Major Contracts Director Kevin Manterfield commented:

This has been another very technical and challenging build so well done to the team. As you can see from the photo, the end result is spectacular.

After many months of construction both Sleaford Eastgate Development and North Sea Observatory are beginning to take shape. These projects have been fraught with issues but the team has overcome them to transfer once derelict and unused land in to wonderful buildings.

Last month saw the delivery of the steelwork to the North Sea Observatory at Chapel St Leonards. The building is in a new phase of construction with steelwork being erected, which sees the structure starting to take shape.

The project did not get off to an easy start. During the early stages we discovered some unexploded bombs, which had to be safely cleared from the area. All of the World War 2 Home Guard bombs have now been removed and normal construction regains its stride.
