Ben Worthington was referred to us in February 2019 from the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Young People’s Learning Provision at Lincoln Council. He was interested in becoming an Apprentice Accountant, then of course Covid happened, and we were unable to offer any kind of placement for Ben until May 2021. Ben started with us as a volunteer working on the Safe Partner Scheme ensuring that all our sub-contractor partners are compliant before being allocated work. In August 2021 an opportunity became available for Ben to apply for a post within the accounts department as an apprentice and he was successful at securing the position and began his and began his Apprenticeship in September this year. Ben now processes the time sheets for all our trades weekly and has been sorting out all the electronic filing systems which were collated from staff whilst working from home as well as maintaining our Safe Partner Database which has never been more robust under his meticulous monitoring.
Arran Fullwood, Finance Director commented:
Ben has already become as asset to our accounts team and is a valued member of staff. I’d encourage Contractors to set their nets a little wider when they recruit new members of staff and not to overlook the natural abilities that people like Ben have for roles which require a diligent and accurate results.
Ben shared this insight into his new role:
I would say I’m an Easy Going, Hardworking, Open-Minded person always looking to improve on myself so that I can get the job more efficiently done for Gelder’s. Ever since starting as a volunteer for the company in May, I have had a wonderful experience in working with other colleagues in the Head Office. I’m very grateful for the job I have now as I can now work whilst studying for the profession that I’m aiming towards passing.
