Description
Gelder were awarded the contract to carry out a major refurbishment of The Westerley, a care home for the elderly or clients with dementia or physical disabilities. The project consisted of the conversion of the existing loft space to create four additional bedrooms, all with en-suite wet rooms and the installation of a new passenger lift.
As the building was a residential home we had to ensure our works caused as little disruption as possible to the residents and staff. This was managed by creating and maintaining good communication with the client and the end users. We held regular meetings to keep everyone up to date with progress and make them aware of any particular works occurring in any communal areas.
We extended the existing lift shaft within the building and installed a new passenger lift to enable the residents to access the new accommodation.
An extensive structural steelwork installation was required to the existing loft to create a habitable space for the residents.
The project was successfully completed on time and within the budget and handed over to a delighted client.
