Description
In July 2022, a devastating fire engulfed the top floor of a four-storey block of flats on Charleston Terrace in Boston, Lincolnshire. The blaze, which started in a cavity and spread to the roof, led to the evacuation of all residents. While the fire caused significant structural damage, there were no reported injuries.
Gelder Group was commissioned by Haven Village Management Ltd to undertake the £2.1 million rebuild. The project encompassed the complete demolition of the fire damaged flats and rebuild of the 11 apartments, ensuring they were modern, safe, and energy-efficient.
The scope of work included the demolition of the existing building and complete re-build of the property. Modern fire safety systems, including enhanced cavity fire barriers, were installed to prevent future incidents. The interiors of the apartments were refurbished with contemporary finishes to provide residents with comfortable and modern living spaces.
The rebuild commenced in November 2023 and was completed within 48 weeks. This ensured that all tenants were able to return to their homes before Christmas 2024, minimising disruption to their lives and allowing them to celebrate the festive season in their restored apartments.
Collaborative efforts between Gelder Group, Haven Village Management Ltd, and local suppliers ensured the project was delivered on time and to a high standard. The apartments were rebuilt to higher safety and sustainability standards, enhancing their long-term value and resilience.
