Gelder Group is proud to have played a central role in the transformation of Gainsborough’s town centre with the successful delivery of the new Savoy Cinema, a cutting-edge leisure development that is already making a vibrant impact on the local community.
Featuring state-of-the-art Vertex 4K laser projection, Dolby Atmos surround sound, and luxury electric recliner seating, the cinema sets a new standard for entertainment in the region and stands as a beacon for cultural regeneration in Lincolnshire.
Appointed as the principal contractor, Gelder Group worked in partnership with West Lindsey District Council and Savoy Cinemas to bring this ambitious project to life, one made possible through over £10 million of Levelling Up funding from the UK government.
Steve Gelder MBE, Chief Executive Officer of Gelder Group, said:
There are several reasons why we were delighted to deliver this fantastic development. Firstly, it’s always a privilege to be trusted with such a high-profile build – one that demands both quality and precision. Secondly, the new cinema will play a vital role in revitalising the town centre, encouraging footfall, and creating a dynamic space for the community, and on a personal note, as someone born and raised in the Gainsborough area, I’m incredibly proud to see this investment in the town’s future. It’s a project close to my heart.
The construction included creating a new pedestrian link connecting the cinema to the historic marketplace, enhancing access and improving the overall experience for visitors. The scheme is a key part of West Lindsey District Council’s wider regeneration vision for Gainsborough and reflects what can be achieved through collaborative partnership working.
Savoy Cinemas Managing Director James Collington added:
We’re excited to open our doors in Gainsborough – a town with rich heritage and a strong sense of community. Our aim has always been to deliver a space where people of all ages can enjoy the magic of cinema in comfort and style. With the Gelder Group’s expertise and commitment, that vision has now been realised.
The new Savoy Cinema promises more than just movies. With a packed summer schedule, including Jurassic World: Rebirth, Zootropolis 2, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Avatar 3, visitors can also enjoy live-streamed performances, Kids Club screenings, Silver Screen sessions, and event hire opportunities. Just a short walk from the town centre, the site also benefits from dedicated free parking, making it an accessible and attractive destination for locals and visitors alike.
